Veterinary Wildlife Experience

Join the Veterinary Wildlife Experience at the Naankuse Foundation Wildlife Sanctuary and gain hands-on exposure to veterinary work with some of Africa’s most iconic wildlife.

ITINERARY

Day 1: Arrival in Windhoek

Arrival at Naankuse Foundation, located just outside Windhoek. Settle into your accommodation and receive an introduction to the sanctuary, the veterinary clinic, and the week ahead.

  • Accommodation: Naankuse Lodge or Bush Camp

  • Meals: Dinner

  • Activities: Orientation tour of sanctuary and clinic

Dive into your hands-on veterinary experience! Each day, you’ll work alongside the dedicated vet team on a variety of tasks that may include:

  • Assisting with big cat health checks

  • Participating in vaccinations, deworming, and dental care

  • Shadowing veterinarians during routine and emergency procedures

  • Helping manage wildlife rescue and rehabilitation efforts

  • Supporting research on human-wildlife conflict mitigation

No two days are the same – your schedule will vary depending on the needs of the animals, with opportunities to get involved in both clinic-based care and fieldwork.

  • Accommodation: Naankuse Lodge or Bush Camp

  • Meals: Breakfast (plus other meals if part of a booked package)

  • Activities: Daily veterinary and conservation work

    • Participants must have a genuine interest in veterinary care and wildlife conservation
    • Travel and medical insurance are mandatory
    • Transportation to and from Naankuse is not included
    • Participants must adhere to all sanctuary rules and protocols
    • This experience is suited for both veterinary students and passionate volunteers
